Hems and facings

Hems and Facings

To neaten and finish the raw edges of your garments you will need to add facings or hems to sleeves, necklines and hemlines.  Hems vary from garment to garment.  Facings can add structure and shape.

During this class, Jane will demonstrate

  • What is a facing
  • When to use a facing or a hem
  • How to make your own facing pattern
  • Using facings for a styled neckline
  • simple turned hems
  • Deep hems
  • How to add hem allowance to patterns
  • Mitred corners on hems
  • Invisible stitched hems
  • reducing bulk on hem seams

You will then have chance to try out the techniques for yourself under the guidance of Jane who will answer all of your questions along the way.

All fabric for samples included in the price.  You can take your samples home with you for future reference.

You will be able to take notes during the class and to video Jane on your phone when she is demonstrating if you wish to have a reminder for future sewing.
