Tailored Waistcoat

You will spend 2 full days with Mark who will guide you through every step of his sewing patterns to create your very own waistcoat.
What You Will Learn
- Working with different fabrics such as…
Front Fabrics options: Wool (woven, boiled or felted) velvet, corduroy, denim, linen, cotton, silk, satin or brocade.
Back fabric options : Silk, satin, sateen, cotton, linen, other lining fabrics or matching fabric to the fronts.
- How to read and follow a sewing pattern
- Tailoring techniques such as buttonholes, collars and pockets
- The aim is to learn all of the skills needed and to end up with a finished waistcoat at the end of this 2 day course.
- We work in a relaxed and un-rushed atmosphere to achieve a quality finish. If you like to work particularly slowly then Mark will give you all the guidance to help you finish off at home.
- You might also learn a little bit about what it is like behinds the scenes on the Great British Sewing Bee!
What’s included
- Paper sewing patterns This Waistcoat collection comes with four different front designs that can all be attached to the same back. You can then customise your make with a choice of pocket designs and optional collars. This is an intermediate sewing pattern that can be simplified for less experienced sewers or beefed for the more adventurous garment maker. Graded in sizes 38”-54”.
- Refereshments
- Use of all of our sewing machines, cutting table, threads and equipment such as scissors etc

- Fabrics – you will receive a fabric requirements list upon booking

- Lunch – please bring your own lunch or order lunch from the lovely Popsy’s cafe which is in the building
Please note, you will be very welcome to arrange a visit the studio in advance to the class and have a look at the fabrics that we have in our Re-Craftery store where you can find up-cycled and new fabrics donated by businesses and individuals to divert the fabrics from landfill. We ask for a small charity donation for fabrics found and used from our store. We also have a big stash of buttons (may not be matching!)
