The After School Sewing club is for a mixture of sewing abilities,
Depending on sewing experience, projects will be chosen to develop new skills. We make items such as pencil cases, bags, cushion covers and simple dressmaking projects to learn different techniques such as zips, button holes, bias binding, Neat and tidy hems and seams, and following sewing patterns.
A knowledge of how to use a sewing machine is essential. Please see our Sewing machine intro class which would be a very good starter if you have never used a sewing machine before.
Beginners – Wednesdays 4 – 5.30
Suitable for age 8 plus.
Mar 1st – Apr 5th – We are making a hoodie jumper. A great way to learn sewing jersey fabrics with a hood, cuffs and a front pocket.
June 7th – July 12th – We will be making a shirred summer dress or top. Plenty of practice in gathering and shirring.
Intermediates – Tuesdays 4 – 5.30pm
Suitable for age 10+ with some experience of sewing projects using a sewing machine
We tend to work on one dressmaking project all together decided upon by the group at the beginning of the 6 week block.
Confident – Thursdays 4.30 – 6pm
Suitable for age 14+ or anyone who has been to sewing clubs for some time to build confidence.
This is a good session for anyone taking GCSE or A-Level textiles at school
In these sessions, each student works on their own project with help where needed. They should feel confident enough to work independently for some of the session.
There will be a maximum of 6 students in each session, to allow for each student to have plenty of attention and support from the tutor
Sessions run as a block of usually 6 weeks (sometimes 5) depending on the term length and are to be booked and paid for in advance to secure a place.
